No Rest for the Wicked (1985).
For our first major label album, we found ourselves in a big studio for the first time - Wessex Studios in North London. With a vast recording space, an enormous mixing desk, unlimited effects, 48 tracks to play with and surrounded by the saturated style of ‘80s production, unsurprisingly, we went a bit over the top. While Stuart’s lead bass-playing was still centre-stage, the making of the album also marked the moment when Robert began to create and write more and more, both as a drummer and as a multi-instrumentalist. Lyrically the album was typically eclectic, but was very much influenced by the traumas of the early Thatcher years, which of course still ring just as true today.
